VERSION 2026-04-06 · LAST UPDATED 2026-04-06

By signing in to JetpackDX, you agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy below. You can use JetpackDX without signing in — local play and local level editing do not require an account.

TERMS OF SERVICE

1. Acceptance

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of JetpackDX, a free browser-based remake of the 1993 DOS game Jetpack. By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not sign in — you can still play the game offline without an account.

You must be at least 13 years old to create a JetpackDX account. See the Privacy Policy for details. The offline game and local level editor are free to use at any age.

JetpackDX is operated by an individual hobby developer ("we", "us"). Contact details are in the final section.

2. License to use the service

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to play JetpackDX, use the level editor, and submit scores to the global leaderboards, free of charge, for non-commercial enjoyment.

The service is provided as-is. You may not resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the game, the editor, or any of its assets.

3. Original game and intellectual property

JetpackDX is a ground-up reimplementation of the original Jetpack DOS game by Adept Software, used with the original author's express permission. The original game and its assets remain the intellectual property of Adept Software.

Original DOS shareware files (JETPACK.EXE, JETLEV.DAT, JETPAL.DAT, JETSOUND.DAT, etc.) are not redistributed by JetpackDX. The web build only contains assets that have been re-derived for browser playback under the terms of our agreement with the original author.

Code authored for JetpackDX (the engine, editor, and tooling) is proprietary to JetpackDX and is not distributed in source form. The browser build is delivered as compiled, minified JavaScript and is not intended for redistribution or modification.

4. Your account and content

When you create an account you are responsible for the activity that occurs under it. Pick a username that is not deliberately offensive, impersonating, or designed to evade moderation.

Levels you upload to the cloud, scores you submit to leaderboards, replays you generate, and any other content you produce in the editor ("User Content") remain yours. By uploading, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content as part of operating JetpackDX, including showing your username and content in public/leaderboard contexts.

Do not upload anything you do not have the right to share, anything illegal, or anything that violates the Acceptable Use rules below.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Cheat, automate, or otherwise tamper with gameplay to fabricate leaderboard runs. Submitted runs include replay inputs and are verified server-side.

• Reverse engineer, modify, or interfere with the service in ways that disrupt other players or the underlying infrastructure.

• Upload levels, usernames, or other content that is harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, illegal, or designed to impersonate another person.

• Use the service to distribute malware, spam, or unsolicited advertising.

• Attempt to access accounts, data, or systems you are not authorized to access.

We reserve the right to remove content, reset scores, suspend accounts, or permanently ban users who violate these rules. Cheating earns a permanent ban.

6. Service availability

JetpackDX is a free hobby project provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee uptime, data durability, leaderboard persistence, or that any particular feature will continue to exist. Cloud-saved levels and leaderboard entries may be lost due to outages, migrations, or operator error.

If you care about a level you built, export a local copy. The editor supports local file save.

7. Disclaimer of warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

You use JetpackDX at your own risk.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) JetpackDX.

Because JetpackDX is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms is limited to zero.

9. Termination

You may stop using JetpackDX at any time and may request account deletion (see Privacy Policy, "Deleting your account").

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms. We may also discontinue the service entirely if maintaining it becomes infeasible.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms as the project evolves. When we do, we will bump the version date at the top of this page and ask you to re-accept the updated Terms the next time you sign in.

You can always continue to play offline without accepting.

11. Governing terms

JetpackDX is operated as an informal hobby project. These Terms are not a substitute for a commercial software agreement. Where local consumer-protection law grants you rights that cannot be waived, those rights are unaffected by the disclaimers above.

PRIVACY POLICY

1. What we collect

When you sign in, we store:

• Your email address (required for account recovery and login).

• A username you choose (visible on leaderboards and shared levels).

• Your gameplay history: level completions, scores, deaths, time, and replay inputs. We use these to verify high score submissions and detect cheating.

• Levels you upload to the cloud, and metadata about them (title, author, publish date).

• The version of these terms you accepted, and when.

• Your marketing email preference (subscribed by default; see "Marketing emails" below).

We do not collect any data when you play offline or use the editor without signing in.

2. How we use your data

• To run your account (login, recover access, save your progress).

• To verify scores submitted to global leaderboards.

• To display your username and shared levels in public/leaderboard contexts.

• To send you occasional product updates (see "Marketing emails" below).

• To improve the game using aggregate, anonymized analytics.

3. Marketing emails

We may send you occasional emails about new features, level packs, events, or game updates. Every marketing email contains a one-click unsubscribe link. Clicking it removes you from the marketing list immediately.

Transactional emails (login codes, account recovery) are not affected by your marketing preferences.

4. What we will NOT do

• We will not sell your data to third parties.

• We will not share your email with advertisers.

• We will not publicly link your username to your email.

• We will not use your gameplay history for targeted advertising.

5. Service providers

We rely on a small number of service providers to run JetpackDX:

• Supabase — authentication only (email storage, OAuth handling).

• Cloudflare — game hosting, profile storage, gameplay history.

• OAuth providers (Google, Discord, X) — only when you explicitly choose to sign in with them.

These providers process your data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy policies.

6. Deleting your account

You can request account deletion at any time by emailing admin@jetpackdx.com. Account deletion removes your profile, gameplay history, cloud-saved levels, and email from our records within 30 days.

7. Minimum age

You must be at least 13 years old to create a JetpackDX account. This minimum matches the age requirements of the third-party sign-in providers we support (Google, Discord, X) and keeps us out of the scope of laws that govern personal data collected from younger children, such as COPPA in the United States.

JetpackDX itself remains free to play offline at any age. The browser game and the local level editor do not require an account, do not collect any personal information, and are appropriate for all ages.

If we learn that we have collected account data from a child under 13, we will delete the account and any associated personal information.
